  Entry Requirements

Each level of education has entry requirements, which vary from institution to institution. However, for those international students wishing to further their education, their own competency in English will be a key factor to being accepted onto further and higher education courses.

It is therefore best to start by seeking advice from the colleges’ admissions department as to what those requirements are. They may then pass you on to the school or department of study you are applying to or proscribe a level of English based on a specified examination board. For example,

  • IELTS – International English Language Testing System
  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • UCLES – University of Cambridge ESOL Exams

* - The positioning of SVQs in the table gives a broad indication of their place in the framework. SVQs are likely to be made up of units at a number of levels making it likely that SVQs will be aligned to more than one SCQF level.
** - These qualifications are differentiated by volume of outcomes and may be offered at either level.
